The FMA I.Ae. 20 El Boyero is a light multi-purpose aircraft produced by the Argentine manufacturer Fábrica Argentina de Aviones .

History and construction

The I.Ae. 20 was a light multipurpose aircraft whose development work began as early as 1939. Although the first prototype flew on November 2, 1939 and the second in the following year, series production could not begin until 1949, as the company had been busy producing military aircraft by then. The aircraft was a braced, high-wing aircraft with a closed cabin that could accommodate two people side by side. The fuselage consisted of steel tubes, which, like the wings made of a wooden frame, were covered with fabric. The machine also had a fixed tail wheel chassis. After the end of the Second World War , the Argentine government commissioned 150 copies to be sent to the Argentine aviation clubs and the military. While the prototypes were still powered by a Continental A50 four-cylinder boxer engine with 37 kW, the decision was made in favor of the Continental A65-8 four-cylinder boxer engine with 49 kW for series production. This version was officially called I.Ae. 20-II-B .

The first production aircraft was delivered in 1949, but production ended as early as 1951 after delivery of only 129 copies, as the company was having increasing difficulties in procuring the necessary materials.
