The DINFIA IA 46 Ranquel, IA 46 Super Ranquel and IA 51 Tehuelche were single-engine multi-purpose aircraft from the Argentine manufacturer DINFIA .

History and construction

The IA 46 was developed for the Argentine flying clubs and for use as an agricultural aircraft in agriculture. It was designed as a strutted shoulder wing with a non-retractable tail wheel landing gear . The fuselage consisted of a welded tubular steel construction and, like the wings, was covered with fabric. There was room for a pilot and two passengers on a bench behind him. The wings of the further development IA 51 Tehuelche were clad with metal, had larger landing flaps and an increased fuel capacity from 140 to 172 liters. When used as an agricultural aircraft, instead of 400 liters of fertilizer or chemicals, 500 liters could now be carried.

Many machines are still used today by the Argentine aviation clubs. Some machines were purchased from Fuerza Aérea Argentina for the towing of gliders.

• IA 46 Ranquel - first production version with Lycoming O-320 -A2B engine, a prototype and 115 production aircraft built
  • IA 46 Super Ranquel - version with Lycoming O-360 -A1A engine, 16 built.
• IA 51 Tehuelche - Version with metal-clad wings, larger landing flaps and increased spray capacity of 500 liters. Only one copy was built. First flight on March 16, 1963.
