The FMA I.Ae. 34 Clen Antú was a glider manufactured by the Argentine manufacturer Fábrica Militar de Aviones .

history

Reimar Horten came to Argentina after the war . Here he continues to work at the Instituto Aerotécnico on the flying wing concept and designed the I.Ae. 34 Clen Antu , which was sometimes referred to as Horten XVa . The first flight took place on June 20, 1949. The new control concept was to be tested with the first four machines. Two single-seaters were built for the international sailplane competition in Madrid in 1952, but the machines were unsuccessful in the competition.

construction

The I.Ae. 34 was a two-seat tailless flying wing glider. The wings were slightly V-shaped and swept back about 21.8 °. The pilots sat in two closed cockpits behind and one above the other in the fuselage, actually the middle part of the wing, which tapered to a point at the rear, which gave the aircraft, which had no tail unit, improved yaw stability. The middle section with the cockpits was made of plywood, the rest of the wing, a wooden structure covered with fabric. The machine had two partially recessed wheels located one behind the other under the middle section, as well as a skid on the underside of the bow.

  • I.Ae. 34 - two-seater standard version, alias Horten XVa .
