The Horten H XVIII was a project draft for a flying wing long-range high-speed bomber by the Horten brothers .

description

The design of the aircraft followed a tender from the Reich Aviation Ministry from 1945 for a long-range high-speed bomber with a cruising speed of 800 km / h, a range of 4000 kilometers and a payload of 4000 kilograms. The aircraft was designed as a three-part cantilever flying wing. In the middle segment, the drive, fuel, payload, the retractable landing gear and the crew were housed. Four Junkers-Jumo-004 -H jet turbines, each with a thrust of 1000 kilograms, were planned as propulsion (six in version A) , which were to be attached in pairs in two gondolas below the wings, while the space for the crew was in one center in the bow Pressurized cabin was provided. The two defenses should be remotely controlled via periscopes .

The calculated performance of the draft was superior to all other concepts submitted to the German Research Institute for Aviation (DVL). The production of the test model was planned for 1946/47.
