The Horten H VII was a flying wing - trainer aircraft of the Brothers Horten . It was intended as a training aircraft for the pilots who would later fly the fast fighter and fighter planes in a flying wing design.

In the RLM type list , the number 8-254 was assigned when the order was placed. Later, with a new task as an aerodynamic test and training model for the H IX, the number 226 was provided so that the machine would have been called Ho 226.

The aircraft was developed in 1942 on behalf of the Luftwaffe based on a flying wing training aircraft. The aircraft was a further development of the Horten HV  V3. Changes concerned an extension of the fuselage, the changed cabin layout with seats arranged one behind the other under a long cabin cover and a retractable nose wheel landing gear . In addition, the two test samples were equipped with two eight-cylinder Argus As 10  C V-engines with 240 hp each. The H VII V1 was completed in 1943 and tested by two pilots with 18 flight hours each. The V1 already had the retractable landing gear intended for the series, as flight recordings show. Construction of the H VII V2 began in 1944, but it was not completed until the end of the war. For the V3 only parts were completed.

At the end of 1943, the Reich Aviation Ministry (RLM) ended support for the project, which canceled the order. In 1945, another 20 machines were commissioned to train the pilots for the Horten H IX , but they were no longer manufactured.

Only one machine had been completed by the end of the war.
