HV In plastic construction

The Horten HV was a motorized flying wing test aircraft from the Horten brothers .

development

The aircraft was developed in 1936 with the support of Dynamit AG in Troisdorf. The aircraft is based on the Horten H II , was constructed in a new type of plastic construction (Trolitax hard tissue or hard paper ) and had a rigid three-wheel chassis. The two-man crew found space next to each other on the glazed bow in the wing center section. A new control system was also tested on the H V V1, whereby the wing tips could be rotated back and forth on an inclined axis and the angle of attack could be changed. The lack of damping resulted in vibrations and the V1 breaking during the first attempt to start.

With the HV V2 a conventional control was used again and a conventional mixed construction was used. The H V was powered by two Hirth-HM-60-R engines with 80 hp each, each acting on a pusher propeller. The machine was parked in the open for some time and rotted away. The final version was created through the restoration of the V2 at Peschke Flugzeug-Werkstätten GmbH, Minden / Westphalia and was then given the PE + HO license plate . The H Vc is also said to have been referred to as Ho 252, which is unlikely since the RLM number 252 was already assigned to the Junkers Ju 252 .
