Hoarding H XII

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Horten H XII was a flying wing test aircraft from the Horten brothers .

The aircraft was designed after the Horten brothers had examined the laminar profile of a captured P 51 Mustang and saw this as an opportunity to improve the flight performance of the Horten H IV . For this purpose, an H IV b was manufactured with a laminar profile that had lower resistance values than the profile previously used. However, the machine crashed due to poor slow flight characteristics. The H XII was planned as a further developed, motorized H IV b. But here, too, only a glider variant was produced for test purposes. This aircraft showed similar poor flight characteristics as the H IV b. The project was then abandoned.
