The FMA I.Ae. 41 Urubú was a glider manufactured by the Argentine manufacturer Fábrica Argentina de Aviones .

history

In order to meet a request from some Argentine aviation clubs for a two-seater glider with seats next to each other, the Instituto Aerotécnico, under the leadership of Reimar Horten, constructed another flying wing glider .

construction

The construction of the I.Ae. 41 (also called Horten XVc ) was essentially based on the I.Ae. 34 , however, in addition to improved flight characteristics, had a wider wing center section to accommodate two seats side by side in a closed cockpit. Like its predecessor, the aircraft had swept-back wings, the middle section was made of plywood and the rest of the wing was a wooden structure covered with fabric. The Urubú also had two extendable, sprung wheels in tandem configuration.
