The FMA I.Ae. 27 Pulqui I was a fighter aircraft project by the Argentinian manufacturer Fabrica Militar de Aviones .

history

The I.Ae. 27 was the first attempt by the Argentine Instituto Aerotécnico to develop a jet aircraft . The construction work was started in 1946 by a team led by the French engineer Émile Dewoitine . Only one prototype was completed, which first flew on August 9, 1947. The machine performed unsatisfactorily, which led to the termination of the project, especially since a team led by Kurt Tank at the I. Ae. 33 Pulqui II was worked.

construction

The machine was an all-metal construction. It was designed as a low-wing aircraft and had a conventional tail unit. The fuel tanks were housed in the trapezoidal wings. It had a retractable nose wheel landing gear, an elliptical fuselage cross-section with a central air inlet and was powered by a Rolls-Royce Derwent 5 .
