The FMA IA 50 Guarani II was a twin-engine travel, feeder and transport aircraft of the Fabrica Militar de Aviones.
Development history
The FMA, which operated as DINFIA from 1957 to 1968, decided in 1960 to build the first PTL aircraft in Latin America. Using components from FMA I.Ae. 35 Huanquero, the DINFIA FA 1 Guarani I was created . Their first flight took place on February 6, 1962. The further development was named Guarani II . Instead of the double tail unit, the aircraft received a new, heavily swept vertical tail unit. In addition, the more powerful Turbomeca Bastan VIa engine was used. The first flight took place on April 26, 1963.
It was used by the Argentine Air Force and Navy as a troop transport, government aircraft, photo aircraft and reconnaissance aircraft.
The last flying copy was taken out of service in 2006 at the II Brigada Aéria in Paraná . It is on display in the Museo Nacional de Aeronàutica in Morón , Buenos Aires .
