Jason Roebke

Jason Roebke (* 1974 in Kaukauna , Wisconsin ) is an American jazz and improvisation musician ( double bass , also cracklebox , percussion , piano ).

Jason Roebke grew up in Wisconsin and began playing the double bass when he was 14. After graduating from Lawrence University , he moved to Madison , where he studied with Roscoe Mitchell . He received his Masters from the University of Michigan in 1998 and briefly taught at Albion College before moving to Chicago the following year . Since then he has worked in the local avant-garde scene a. a. with Fred Lonberg-Holm , Jason Stein , Keefe Jackson , Mike Reed , Frank Rosaly and Scott Fields , also in the improvisational ensembles Arrive, Tigersmilk and Flatlands Collective . In 2003 he presented the debut album Rapid Croche with 482 Music , on which Aram Shelton and Tim Daisy participated. In the field of jazz, he was involved in 51 recording sessions between 1997 and 2016. He has received several grants, including the 2007 Community Arts Assistance Program of the City of Chicago and the 2009 Artist Fellowship in Music Composition from the Illinois Arts Council.
