Keefe Jackson

Keefe Jackson (* in Fayetteville , Arkansas ) is an American jazz and improvisation musician ( tenor saxophone , bass clarinet , hybrid trumpet with saxophone mouthpiece).

Keefe Jackson reportedly began learning the cello at the age of three; after coming into contact with jazz, he played tenor saxophone from the age of ten. At the age of 15 he was already performing in local night clubs. After studying briefly at the University of Arkansas , he moved to Portland, Maine , where he played in local jazz, rock and funk bands. In 1998 he returned to his hometown of Fayetteville to take care of his terminally ill mother. In 2001 he moved to Chicago and became active in the local improvisation scene, including a. with Ken Vandermark , Boris Hauf , Dave Rempis , Marc Unternährer ( Chicago Luzern Exchange ) and the formation Lucky 7's . In 2005 he presented his debut album Several Lights ; tours in the United States and Europe followed.

In 2005 Jackson founded the formation Fast Citizens ( Ready Everyday , Delmark Records , 2005/6) with Aram Shelton , Fred Lonberg-Holm , Josh Berman , Anton Hatwich and Frank Rosaly , which produced other albums with the same line-up under the direction of Shelton and Lonberg- Holm submitted. Another of Jackson's band projects is Project Project ( Just Like This , 2007). In the field of jazz he was involved in 16 recording sessions between 2004 and 2011, apart from the aforementioned with Paul Hartsaw , Guillermo Gregorio and Jason Stein , where he also played the double bass clarinet. With his project Likely So , consisting only of woodwinds , to which Mars Williams , Wacław Zimpel , Marc Stucki, Dave Rempis , Peter A. Schmid and Thomas KJ Mejer belong, he performed at the Jazzwerkstatt Festival in Bern in 2013 .
