Jaimie Branch
Jaimie Branch (born June 17, 1983 ) is an American jazz and improvisation musician ( trumpet , electronics).
Live and act
Branch began playing the trumpet at the age of nine and graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music in 2005; afterwards she lived in Chicago and worked as a musician, organizer and sound engineer in the local music scene. a. with Jason Ajemian ( The Art of Dying , 2006), Keefe Jackson 's Project Project ( Just Like This , 2007), Tim Daisys New Fracture Quartet ( 1,000 Lights , 2008), Anton Hatwich and Ken Vandermark ; she performed in Chicago and New York with her trio Princess, Princess (with bassist Toby Summerfield and drummer Frank Rosaly ), also in trio constellations with Tim Daisy / Daniel Levin , Matt Schneider / Jason Adasiewicz , and with Chris Welcome / Sam Weinberg up. With Jason Stein , Jeb Bishop and Jason Roebke she founded the group Block and Tackle . In the field of jazz, she was involved in five recording sessions between 2006 and 2008.
In 2012 she moved to Baltimore , where she earned a Masters in Jazz Performance from Towson University . During this time she founded the record label Pionic Records, on which she released her music in vinyl pressings and appeared with her formation Bomb Shelter . In New York City she worked a. a. with Brandon Lopez , Fred Lonberg-Holm and Mike Pride . She also worked in the independent rock formations Never Enough Hope, Local H and Atlas Math in recording sessions. She is currently working with her own quartet, which includes Chad Taylor (drums), Jason Ajemian (bass) and Lester St. Louis (cello), as well as Brandon Lopez, Mike Pride, Shayna Dulberger and Weasel Walter and Yoni Kretzmer and Tobey Cederberg . She counts Don Cherry , Axel Dörner , Booker Little and Miles Davis among her musical influences . In 2017 she released her debut album Fly or Die , on which Tomeka Reid, Jason Ajemian, Chad Taylor and guest musicians Matt Schneider (guitar), Ben LaMar Gay and Josh Berman (cornet) had collaborated. At the Down Beat Critics Poll 2020 she was the winner in the category “best trumpeter (rising star)”.
