Jason Stein
Jason Stein (born December 6, 1976 in Washington, DC ) is an American jazz and improvisation musician ( bass clarinet ).
Live and act
Stein grew up on Long Island . He studied at Bennington College with Charles Gayle and Milford Graves , then at the University of Michigan with Donald Walden and Ed Sarath . He has lived in Chicago since 2006 , where he has worked with his own ensembles and with Boris Hauf , Keefe Jacksons Project Project , Kyle Bruckmanns Wrack , in the Exploding Star Orchestra and in the Trio My Silence (with Mike Reed , Nick Butcher). With his own trio Locksmith Isidore , which includes Jason Roebke or Kevin Davis and Mike Pride , he has recorded three albums so far (2017). In 2009 he released the solo album Solo: In Exchange for a Process on Leo Records . He runs the Hearts & Minds duo with pianist and synthesizer player Paul Giallorenzo . In the field of jazz Stein participated in 21 recording sessions between 2005 and 2014, and he also recorded with the songwriter Nina Nastasia ( Outlaster , 2010), with Mike Reed ( Flesh & Bone ) and the Jason Roebke Octet.
Stein also played with Michael Moore , Jeff Parker , Rudi Mahall , Ken Vandermark , Rob Mazurek , Jeb Bishop , Michiel Braam , Ingebrigt Håker Flaten , Pandelis Karayorgis , Fred Lonberg-Holm , Tony Buck , Kent Kessler , Tobias Delius , Nate McBride , Jack Wright, Michael Zerang , Michael Vatcher , Frank Gratkowski , Peter Brötzmann , Fredrik Ljungkvist , Wilbert de Joode and Håvard Wiik .
