Heinz Grah

Heinz Grah (* 7. May 1931 , † 1989 ) was a German double bassist of the Modern Jazz , who is also in mainstream jazz was active.

Grah comes from a musical family; his father was the pianist and conductor Willi Grah. With his brother, the pianist and vibraphonist Bill Grah , he played in a band from 1946 that performed regularly in the jazz clubs of Cologne and Düsseldorf. In the mid-1950s he moved with him to Vienna , where he was active in the central bands of Oscar Klein and Fatty George . Back in the Rhineland he was part of the Boogie Woogie Company around Leo von Knobelsdorff and Ali Claudi from 1964 . Between 1953 and 1973 he was involved in 43 recordings, in addition to the aforementioned bands, among others with the quartet of Karl Drewo .
