Eric Revis

Eric Revis (born May 31, 1967 in Los Angeles ) is an American jazz bassist.

At the age of fourteen Revis got an electric bass and learned the game on his own. After studying biology at Southern University for a year , he went to San Antonio / Texas , where he got to know jazz music and switched to acoustic bass. From 1991 to 1992 he studied with Ellis Marsalis , Harold Battiste and Victor Goines in New Orleans . Here he had the opportunity to play with musicians such as Brian Blade , Nicholas Payton , Chris Thomas, Mark Turner , Troy Davis , Peter Martin and Greg Tardy .

In 1994 Revis came to New York , where he became a member of Betty Carter's band. He also performed regularly with Kurt Rosenwinkel , Billy Harper , Aaron Parks , Louis Hays , Lionel Hampton , Tess Marsalis , Russell Gunn and others. In 1997 he met Branford Marsalis , to whose quartet he has belonged ever since. In 2004, Tales of the Stuttering Mime was released , his first album as a band leader.
