Duane Eubanks
Duane Eubanks (* 24. January 1969 in Philadelphia ) is an American jazz trumpeter and composer of the post bop .
Live and act
As the younger brother of guitarist Kevin Eubanks and trombonist Robin Eubanks , he grew up in a musical environment, to which his mother Vera, a piano teacher, and uncle Ray Bryant contributed. Like his brother Kevin, he learned to trumpet, but then stayed with it. He also has a twin brother, Shane, who plays the trombone. He studied business administration at the University of Maryland (where he played in the university's jazz band, accompanying Stanley Turrentine , Charles Fambrough and Shirley Scott ) and then jazz trumpet at Temple University , also taking lessons from Johnny Coles . He also attended master classes from Billy Taylor and Wynton Marsalis .
He then moved to New York City , where he founded his own quartet and recorded with his brother Robin in 1997 ( Wake Up Call ). In 1999 his first album My Shining Hour ( TCB Records ) was released, in which he also interprets his own compositions and on which Antonio Hart and his brother Robin play as well as his pianist Orrin Evans , Avishai Cohen and Ralph Peterson . Hart and Robin Eubanks also play on his follow-up album Second Take (TCB 2001).
He played with Illinois Jacquet (with whose big band he toured Europe in 1991), Oliver Lake (in his big band), Elvin Jones , Randy Brecker , Nicholas Payton , Benny Golson , Mulgrew Miller (in his band Wingspan ), Curtis Fuller , Donald Byrd , James Moody and outside of jazz with Alicia Keys , Phyllis Hyman and The Temptations, among others . He also played in the Loud Minority Big Band by Frank Foster , in the big bands of Roy Hargrove , from Jason Lindner and Lionel Hampton and Next Legacy Orchestra .
He mentions Clifford Brown , Lee Morgan and Wayne Shorter as early musical inspirations .
He played in Dave Holland's big band on the Grammy Award albums What Goes Around (2002) and Overtime (2005). Currently (2019) he leads his own quintet, which includes Abraham Burton , Anthony Wonsey , Gerald Cannon and Chris Beck .
He has taught at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and Oberlin College . He is married with two children and lives in New York.
