TCB records

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

TCB Records is a Swiss jazz label that was founded in 1988 by jazz musician Peter Schmidlin (1947–2015).

TCB (abbreviation for Taking Care of Business ) was founded in 1988 by Basel drummer Peter Schmidlin. The first productions were based on the recordings of a radio series in which the rhythm section composed of Peter Frei , Klaus Koenig and Schmidlin performed in public with often American jazz soloists. The radio recordings ( Swiss Radio Days Jazz Live Concert Series ) were initially offered as LPs. The soloists included Dexter Gordon , Woody Shaw , Benny Bailey , Slide Hampton , Art Farmer , Clark Terry and Johnny Griffin , but also Karin Krog , Albert Mangelsdorff and Alan Skidmore / Kenny Wheeler .

In 1991 Schmidlin founded TCB Music SA in Montreux . In the middle of 1992 TCB was further professionalized with the support of Kurt Weil and the activities were expanded. The specific product lines, which were stylistically differentiated, included recordings on Swiss radio with jazz groups and big bands such as the Quincy Jones Big Band , the Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Orchestra , the Gerry Mulligan Concert Jazz Band and the Vienna Art Orchestra , the groups by Cannonball Adderley , Art Blakey , Phil Woods , Miles Davis and Buck Clayton , as well as recordings by Benny Goodman and bebop / postbop (such as George Gruntz , Willi Johanns , François Lindemann , Thierry Lang / Toots Thielemans , Matthieu Michel / Richard Galliano ), the World Jazz (z. B. Hans Kennel , Peter Schärli or Paul Haag ), or of contemporary jazz ( Christoph Spendel , Jack Walrath , Ed Neumeister ). In addition to productions by radio and the Montreux Jazz Festival (e.g. Roni Ben-Hur / Barry Harris or Buster Williams ), the label has also published in-house productions, for example by Mark Soskin or Jerome Richardson . The discographer Tom Lord lists 248 sessions that were released on the TCB label up to 2013.
