François Lindemann

François Lindemann (* 17th September 1950 in Lausanne ) is a Swiss jazz - pianist , percussionist, bandleader and composer.

Life

François Lindemann studied classical piano at the Lausanne Conservatory and then came to jazz by studying the music of Jazz Messengers , Clifford Brown and John Coltrane . After attempts with his own orchestra and some compositions (1969) he played free jazz with the quartet CM 4 (1974), founded in 1974 with Jean-Luc Barbier , with whom he played in clubs and at festivals in Switzerland and France between 1974 and 1981 occurred. For the recording of the concert at the Montreux Jazz Festival 1975, the group received a gold record in Spain .

Since then, Lindemann has worked as a composer and leader of his own formations such as his quintet (1985) and an octet (1989), in which u. a. bassist Léon Francioli , trumpeter Matthieu Michel and trombonist Robin Eubanks played. With this band he also made guest appearances in the USA. Parallel to these activities, he played in the duo founded in 1980 with the Chilean pianist Sebastián Santa María; In 1986 they founded Piano Seven , a formation with seven pianists who made guest appearances in Switzerland and Asia. Lindemann also appeared as a soloist and worked with the Gongs in Thailand project , which in 1997 led to the Swiss Jazz Meets Music from Thailand performance . In 2001 he worked in the Trio ELP and gave various concerts in Bangkok. He is currently working with his quintet, which includes Guillaume Perret and Jean-Lou Treboux , and smaller groups.

Lindemann also worked with Carla Bley , Steve Swallow , Alvin Queen , Woody Shaw , Glenn Ferris and Curtis Fuller .
