Gaspard Glaus (born October 27, 1957 in Avenches ) is a Swiss jazz musician ( piano , composition ) who works across genres.

Glaus began learning classical piano at the age of nine before discovering jazz three years later. In 1975 he began to perform in the Andoar Quartet (with François Allaz, Jean-François Massy and Marc Wagnon); In 1976 he won the piano award at the Augst Jazz Festival . After graduating from high school, he moved to Bern to complete vocational training at the Swiss Jazz School there until 1981 . He performed in a duo with Martial Solal . In 1990 he returned to the Swiss Jazz School in Bern to study there; In 1991 he received a diploma in piano lessons from the Conservatoire de Lausanne ; finally, he graduated there in 1994 with a degree in orchestration.

Glaus is active in various jazz formations and has his own trio with Bob Harrison and Olivier Clerc . Between 1988 and 1999 he was part of Piano Seven around François Lindemann ; he has performed regularly with artists such as Léon Francioli , Daniel Bourquin , Ivor Malherbe , Raymond Court and Antoine Auberson . He was also a member of the Lausanne Big Band and accompanied singers such as Pascal Auberson , Henri de Gaulle , Sarcloret , Michel Bühler and Valérie Lou . He also performed as a pianist with the Groupe Instrumental Romand .

Glaus began composing in the early 1980s. He wrote the music for many radio plays for Radio Télévision Suisse and received the Prix Gilson in 1985 and the Prix ​​Italia in 1986 . He also wrote stage and numerous film scores for the directors Jean-François Amiguet , Gilles Pache and Vivien Gofette .

Glaus, one of the founding members of the École de jazz et de musiques actuelles in Lausanne, has been professor of practical harmony and piano accompaniment at the Haute École de Musique Lausanne since 2000 and also teaches at the Ribeaupierre Institute in Lausanne. In 2001 he published an improvisation method called Lignes, motifs et improvisation .
