Ivor Malherbe

Ivor Malherbe (born October 5, 1962 in Yverdon-les-Bains ) is a Swiss jazz musician ( double bass , also electric bass ) and radio presenter.

Live and act

Malherbe first learned classical piano. In 1978 he switched to double bass and jazz. In 1984 Yvan Ischer brought him into his band Jazzistic with Daniel Thentz, who toured with Curtis Fuller in 1986 . Then he worked with Raymond Court (CD Beautiful Friendship , 1988). Since the late 1980s he has been a member of François Lindemann's octet , with whom he toured North America in 1992 and with which he made several albums. Malherbe was then part of various collaborative trio formations. He was also a member of Thierry Lang's trio , with whom he also accompanied Toots Thielemans and recorded four albums. He can be heard on several albums with the Big Band de Lausanne and the Jérôme Thomas Big Band .

Malherbe continued to play with Maurice Magnoni , Pascal Rinaldi, Philippe Cornaz, Lee Konitz , Woody Shaw , Franco Ambrosetti , Antonio Faraò , Art Farmer , George Gruntz , Mick Goodrick and George Robert . He has recorded a total of about 30 albums; Tom Lord lists 27 recordings between 1984 and 2004.

Since 1990 he has also been the presenter of jazz programs on the cultural channel Espace 2 of Radio Suisse Romande . He was also a teacher at the École de jazz et de musique actuelle in Lausanne.
