Yvan Ischer

Yvan Ischer (born November 7, 1961 in Vevey ) is a Swiss jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , also alto and soprano saxophone ) and jazz journalist.

Life

Ischer only decided to learn the saxophone as an autodidact when he was 20 years old . In 1984 he founded the group Jazzistic with Daniel Thentz and Ivor Malherbe , which toured with Curtis Fuller in 1986 . In 1985 there was another band project with Changes and in 1987 with Alcatraz . In the same year he became a member of the Big Band de Lausanne , with whom he worked on productions with musicians such as Johnny Griffin , Toots Thielemans , Marvin Stamm , Joe Lovano , Kenny Werner and Jon Faddis for the next 20 yearswas involved, some of which were also released as albums. He also led a quintet with Thierry Lang and Jerome Thomas and played with the groups of François Lindemann , Moncef Genoud and in the septet of Jean-Pierre Beltrami. In 1988 he founded his own quartet, with which he released a first album in 1994. He has also appeared with Phil Woods , Benny Bailey , Youssou N'Dour , Allan Harris and Kurt Weil . Together with Thierry Lang and Peter Schmidlin , he founded the top-class festival Ollon du Jazz , which took place every year for three days until 2004.

Parallel to his activities as a musician, he has been responsible for the jazz broadcasts of Radio suisse romande since 1987 . Ischer is also the author of the book Jazz Story , which describes the history of big bands.
