Radio suisse romande (RSR) was the public radio operator in French-speaking Switzerland . RSR is a corporate unit of SRG SSR idée suisse and is based in Lausanne . There are also correspondent offices in Geneva , Neuchâtel , Friborg , Sion , Delémont , Biel , Zurich and Bern . The director is Gérard Tschopp . In 2005, RSR had operating expenses of approximately 124 million Swiss francs and as of December 31, 2005 a workforce of 491 full-time positions.

On February 29, 2012, Radio Suisse Romande merged with Télévision Suisse Romande into the new Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS). In contrast to the television stations, the radio stations were not given any new names, only new logos.

Programs

RSR and its successor organization RTS are currently producing four programs:

  • La Première is the first and most successful broadcaster in French-speaking Switzerland . The "first" is intended as a full program for broad sections of the population and in 2008 reached an average of 553,060 people per day. The market share was 39.5%.
  • Espace 2 is a cultural program. In 2008, an average of 91,560 people tuned in every day, corresponding to a market share of 3.4%.
  • Couleur 3 is a youth program that often attracts attention with its unconventional music programming. Thanks to a cooperation, the station is also broadcast in France; the financing for this is provided through advertising that is only broadcast on the frequencies there. In 2008, 156,490 people heard couleur 3 on an average day in Switzerland, with a market share of 5.3%.
  • Option Musique is the youngest RSR program. It was broadcast on medium wave until December 5, 2010 and brings a rather harmonious music program with chansons and news on the hour. With an average of 208,840 listeners a day, the market share in 2008 was 8.7%.

reception

All RSR / RTS programs can be received unencrypted across Europe via Eutelsat Hot Bird using the DVB-S method. The main reception channel for the programs, however, is the VHF broadcast, whereby the first three programs of RSR can be heard in the entire French-speaking part of Switzerland and the neighboring regions, including eastern France, via a nationwide transmitter network. La Première also has other channels in the other language regions of Switzerland. Option Musique could be heard terrestrially on medium wave 765 kHz and some VHF small transmitters in Valais until December 5, 2010, as well as nationwide via cable. Cable and DAB reception generally also apply to the other programs, at least in French-speaking Switzerland, and in some other language regions only La Première is fed in.
