Switzerland 4

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Switzerland 4 ( Suisse 4 , Svizzera 4 , Svizra 4 ) was the name of a television program on SRG SSR . It started in 1993 under the name S Plus and was broadcast throughout Switzerland simultaneously in German , French and Italian . On March 1, 1995, the program was renamed Switzerland 4 . It was intended to complement regional language programs and, above all, to relieve the burden of sports broadcasts. Accordingly, the content came mainly from the sports sector, later Euronews was often taken over. There were also programs from collaborations with publishing houses.

Switzerland 4 had poor audience numbers almost all of the time, so that the SRG stopped the program in the summer of 1997. Instead, a second television program (SF 2 (today SRF two ), TSR 2 (today RTS 2 ) and TSI 2 (today RSI LA 2 )) was set up for each linguistic region , which was mainly broadcast on the Swiss 4 network.

From an organizational point of view, Switzerland 4 was a separate unit within SRG SSR and reported directly to the SRG Director General.

The identification of Switzerland 4 were aerial photographs taken from a helicopter of a special hot air balloon driving over the Swiss landscape . The 50-meter-high special-shape balloon was shaped like a four. During these aerial photographs, Marco Fumasoli had the idea of portraying Switzerland at low altitude; this resulted in the Swissview program .
