Radio Beromünster

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Radio Beromünster was a public Swiss radio program that was broadcast on the Beromünster national broadcaster , a transmitter for medium wave broadcasting.

history

The transmitter started operating on June 11, 1931. After an increase in the transmission power from 60 kW to 100 kW and the commissioning of the Blosenberg Tower in 1937, Radio Beromünster could be received in large parts of Europe. The state broadcaster as a public service broadcaster became an important independent source of information during World War II . In this way, the eponymous place Beromünster became widely known, also because of the lettering on the frequency scales of the radio devices.

The Nazi propaganda in neighboring Germany was based essentially on the new medium radio , the Volksempfänger , which had been developed on behalf of Joseph Goebbels . The national broadcaster was of great importance not only for Switzerland, but also for Germany, Austria and as far as Poland for the defense of this propaganda in the context of intellectual national defense . The foreign " radio propaganda" was a thorn in the side of the Nazi leadership, and accordingly Radio Beromünster and the British BBC were regarded as enemy broadcasters whose reception was forbidden in the German Reich under threat of imprisonment. Nevertheless, Radio Beromünster was listened to in secret.

The historian Jean Rudolf von Salis was the most important voice on Radio Beromünster from 1940 to 1946 with his world chronicle, which was broadcast every Friday evening at 7 a.m. The national broadcaster remained an important independent source of information even in the post-war period, which was not only heard regularly in Switzerland. The Swiss radio DRS emerged from broadcasting.

On December 29, 2008 at 00:00 CET, the transmission of the Musigwwall 531 with the Swiss national anthem was ended. The three days that followed, an additional announcement informed that the station would no longer broadcast from New Year 2009. On December 31, 2008 at exactly 11:59:01 pm, the carrier signal was switched off to 531 kHz.
