Marvin tribe

Marvin Stamm (born May 23, 1939 in Memphis , Tennessee ) is an American jazz trumpeter. Martin Kunzler rates him as the lead trumpeter, "who also stands out from the small elite of his instrument with his first-rate solo performance."

Live and act

Stamm played the trumpet since he was twelve and studied with Leon Breeden at North Texas State University . From 1961 to 1963 he was principal trumpeter of Stan Kenton's Mellophonium Orchestra , with which he recorded five albums. In 1965 and 1966 he toured with Woody Herman , after which he went to New York City . There he became a member of the Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Orchestra and the Duke Pearson Big Band . From 1973 to 1974 he performed with Frank Sinatra , then with the Benny Goodman Sextet . He also worked as a studio musician with u. a. with Bill Evans , Quincy Jones , Oliver Nelson , Duke Pearson, Wes Montgomery , Freddie Hubbard , Stanley Turrentine , Patrick Williams , Michel Legrand , Lena Horne , Frank Foster , Paul Desmond , Joe Thomas , Gato Barbieri and George Benson . In the pop area, productions by Paul McCartney ( Ram ), Paul Simon , James Brown or Barbra Streisand should be mentioned.

In the 1980s he performed with John Lewis ' American Jazz Orchestra , the Bob Mintzer Band , the George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band , Louie Bellson's big band and quintet, and the big band of the composer Maria Schneider . He then worked mainly with his own quartet, in a duo with pianist Bill Mays and the Westchester Jazz Orchestra , a big band under Joey Berkley (with Tony Kadleck , Craig Johnson and Jim Rotondi , trumpet; Keith O'Quinn , Larry Farrell and George Flynn , Trombone; Jay Brandford , David Brandom , Ralph LaLama and Eddie Xiques , saxophone; Ted Rosenthal , piano, Harvie S , bass and Tony Jefferson , drums). Stamm lives in North Salem, New York.
