George Flynn (trombonist)

George Flynn is an American studio and jazz musician ( trombone , bass trombone , tuba ).

Live and act

Flynn began his music career with Buddy Rich after serving four years in the US Navy . Since then he has worked in Broadway theaters in the New York area and from the 1970s as a studio musician, a. a. with Philip Glass ( Koyaanisqatsi 1982), Michael Jackson , Aretha Franklin , Natalie Cole , Liza Minnelli , Barbra Streisand , Chaka Khan , Sinéad O'Connor , Tony Bennett , Amy Winehouse , Anne Murray , Gladys Knight ( Before Me ) and for film soundtracks like The Wiz (1978), The Lion King (1994) and The Alamo (2004). He is a member of the Westchester Jazz Orchestra (with Marvin Stamm and Jim Rotondi, among others ) in the New York Big Band of John Fedchock and in the orchestra of Maria Schneider , on their albums Evanescence (1994), Allégresse (2000), Days of Wine and Roses (2000) and Concert in the Garden (2008) he can be heard. In 2011 he also worked on Ryan Truesdells Gil-Evans - Project Centennial - Newly Discovered Works of Gil Evans .

Flynn, who participated in over 50 recording sessions in the field of jazz up to 2011, should not be confused with the composer and pianist of the same name (* 1937).
