Terence Michael "Terry" Clarke (born August 20, 1944 in Vancouver ) is a Canadian jazz drummer.

Clarke started playing drums when he was twelve ; in his hometown he performed with Chris Gage, David Robbins and Barney Kessel , often with bassist Don Thompson . In 1965 he moved with this to San Francisco , after both were invited to become members of the quintet of John Handy ; they took part in the highly acclaimed appearance of the band at the Monterey Jazz Festival (live album). In 1967, Clarke became a member of The Fifth Dimension . In 1970 he returned to Canada to work as a studio musician, but also toured with Jim Hall (since 1976) and with Oscar Peterson (since 1981). He also played with Emily Remler and was a member of Rob McConnells Brass Big Band. In 1985 he moved to New York City , where he worked with Jim Hall, Ed Bickert , Doc Cheatham , Buddy Tate , Helen Merrill , Toots Thielemans and Mark Murphy . He was also a member of Toshiko Akiyoshi's Jazz Orchestra . With Jay Leonhart , Gary Burton and Joe Beck he played the album Four Duke (1995). In 2000 he returned to Toronto , where he helped Rob McConnell form his tentet and recorded a Juno Award- winning album with the group .

Clarke is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto . In 2002 he was named Drummer of the Year at the Canadian National Jazz Awards .
