Patrick Williams
Patrick Moody Williams (born April 23, 1939 in Bonne Terre , Missouri - † July 25, 2018 in Santa Monica , California ) was an American composer .
Life
Patrick Moody Williams grew up in Connecticut and had two siblings. During his history studies at Duke University , he led the student jazz band Duke Ambassadors from 1959 to 1961 . He then studied composition and conducting at Columbia University . Before he moved to Los Angeles in 1968 to advance his film career, he was already a busy composer who wrote and arranged several jazz albums. As a composer, he has participated in more than 200 film and television productions, including various series such as Mary Tyler Moore , The Bob Newhart Show and The Streets of San Francisco .
For Frank Sinatra he conducted and arranged his albums Duets I and II . For the clarinetist Eddie Daniels Williams wrote A Concerto in Swing and saxophonist Tom Scott wrote Romances for the Jazz Soloist and Orchestra . His Theme For Earth Day was recorded by John Williams and the Boston Pops Orchestra .
Williams also worked as a music teacher and, for example, headed the Henry Mancini Institute for five years and was visiting professor at the University of Colorado Boulder and the University of Utah . He also received honorary doctorates from both Colorado and Duke .
Williams was married and had three children.
