The Bible - Solomon is a two-part television film that tells the life of King Solomon .
action
Before the aged King David dies, he appoints his son Solomon as his successor against the will of the general Joab. This takes over the rule and has to assert himself against intrigues and domestic political problems. However, he is praised for his justice and love of peace with which he gives his people splendor and prestige. He, the wisest of the wise, finally builds the temple in which the ark will be housed in honor of God . When this temple is finished it attracts peoples from all parts of the world and leads them to Jerusalem. Among them is the Queen of Sheba with her entourage. Salomon falls in love with the exotic queen. When this leaves him, however, he begins to disobey God's commandments and neglect his government. His court includes numerous women from all over the world who belong to different religious cults. Therefore, there are always arguments between him and the priests, because they see Israel's sole covenant with God endangered by the influences of foreign religions. This initiates the collapse of his empire. Ultimately, only the tribe of Judah remains to follow his son Rehoboam, while the remaining tribes of Israel fall to Jeroboam, one of Solomon's advisors.
criticism
"Difficulties with the dramaturgical development as well as the unreflected use of film and literary quotations require a superficiality that does not allow any interest in the main character."
“Successful staging with humor and good dialogues in a wonderful, authentic-looking setting. The symphonic music is outstanding and the most successful of the Bible television series. In terms of content, you create a very detailed and credible picture of the eventful life of the third king of Israel - albeit a little too long overall. Shortened to around 100 minutes, the film would have a greater impact. "
