The Bible - Abraham is a two-part television film, the life of Abraham , the patriarch of the Old Testament of the Bible says.

action

Abraham lives with his family in Harran , an ancient city where many gods are worshiped. Even Abraham's brother Nahor worships them.

Yet despite the rich harvest and the income the nomad tribe earns, Abraham seems to be missing something. It is not a son, although his wife Sara is sterile. It is the hold on a constant that the elderly nomad lacks.

This halt seems to have come when one day Abraham hears a voice. That voice prophesies that one day he will found a great people, and to achieve this Abraham must move to a foreign land with his wife and his tribe. In this land that the voice promises, milk and honey will flow.

background

After George C. Scott in The Bible , it is now Richard Harris who follows in the footsteps of the first patriarch in biblical history. Harris, who would later become even more famous in films such as Gladiator and Harry Potter , once described the role of Abraham as "the character I would stay with people after my death."

Abraham is the first two-part series in the series.

The set design and the costumes already suggest that this series is different from, for example, The Ten Commandments , Ben Hur and The Greatest Story of All Time . The film was shot in the real desert, at murderous temperatures. Within two months, the Moroccan city of Ouarzazate was rebuilt into a large antique set to simultaneously represent the cities of Haran and Sodom . The Bible - Abraham is also the first film in the series with American influence.

Director Joseph Sargent , who mainly directed TV series such as Star Trek and Bonanza in the 1970s and 1980s , was able to bring top stars like Barbara Hershey ( The Last Temptation of Christ ) and Maximilian Schell ( The Judgment of Nuremberg ) , as well as European greats like Gottfried Sign John ( Asterix and Obelix against Caesar ) and Christian Kohlund ( Die Schwarzwaldklinik ) .

The Italian Raffaele Mertes was at the camera ; the music was composed by the Italian Don Marco Frisina .

The actors Evelina Meghangi , Mattia Sbragia and Paco Reconti , who act in the film , have in common that all three took on roles in Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ 10 years later, in 2004 .

criticism

“The film, carried by good actors, approaches its subject with great seriousness and avoids the lowlands of the Hollywood spectacle. The production succeeded in depicting the apparitions of God without embarrassment, even if other clichés of the genre were not always avoided. "
