Barbara Hershey
Barbara Hershey (* 5 February 1948 as Barbara Lynn Herzstein in Hollywood , California ) is an American actress .
Life
The daughter of the department store clerk Melrose Herzstein, nee Moore, and the professional player Arnold Nathan Herzstein attended Hollywood High School, discovered her acting talent at an early age and began her career in 1965 with a guest appearance in three episodes of the series Gidget .
1966 followed appearances in the television series The Monroes . However, Hershey found the collaboration there so devastating that she wrote anonymous letters of complaint to the producers to stop the series as soon as possible.
She made her film debut in 1968 in the comedy The Man in Mammi's Bed , the last film with Doris Day . She then starred with Glenn Ford in the western Powder and Lead , in which she stood in front of the camera with David Carradine , the later star of the television series Kung Fu . The two became a couple and a symbol of counterculture in Hollywood - they named their son "Free" (he later chose the name Tom). In the same year, she starred as the promiscuous teen Sandy in the scandalous drama Last Summer , a film adaptation of the Evan Hunter novel of the same name and directed by Frank Perry . The film was classified as harmful to young people with a so-called "X rating"; he was shocked by a rape scene. During the production of Last Summer a seagull (English "seagull") was killed. Hershey felt personally responsible for their death and was called Barbara Seagull for several years in the early 1970s as a show of respect for the animal .
Woody Allen became aware of her acting performance in the said film, and offered her a lead role in his 1986 film Hannah and Her Sisters , which revived her career.
From 1999 to 2009 she was the partner of the British actor Naveen Andrews , they met while filming Drowning on Dry Land (1999). In the US fantasy series Once Upon a Time - Once Upon a Time ... Hershey played the recurring role of Cora from 2012 to 2013. In the German dubbed version, Barbara Hershey is voiced by Kerstin Sanders-Dornseif .
