Maria Grazia Cucinotta (born July 27, 1968 in Messina , Sicily ) is an Italian actress , film producer , film director and model .

Life

Cucinotta, who has a diploma as an auditor, moved from her homeland to the Italian capital and was quickly discovered as a model, soon also for commercials. After her first appearance on television at Renzo Arbores Indietro tutta , the slim, black-haired, typically Mediterranean-looking Cucinotta quickly became a star and ideal of beauty. Maria Cucinotta made her film debut in 1990 in the less than successful film Vacanze di Natale '90 . In 1994 the film Il Postino (German: The Postman ), nominated for several Oscars , was made , in which she played the future wife of the title hero. She was also quite successful in 1997 with her portrayal of the Abishag in The Bible - Solomon . In the Bible adaptations Maria Magdalena , Judas and Thomas she embodied Maria Magdalena three times . She became known to a wider international audience in 1999 through her appearance in The World Is Not Enough - the 19th James Bond film. She played the "cigar girl". In 2006 she worked on the Greek- Italian co-production Uranya . She also appeared in numerous other cinema and television films .

As a director, she was awarded a silver ribbon in 2012 for her short film Il maestro .

Cucinotta has been married to Giulio Violati since October 8, 1995. They have a daughter together.
