The film shows how the disciple Thomas, who does not believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ , finds faith in the resurrection.

action

After Jesus of Nazareth was sentenced to death, the disciples went into hiding. Thomas had also been in hiding. When he couldn't take it any longer and hurried to the crucifixion site, he found only the empty grave there. He finds the blood-smeared nails with which Jesus was nailed to the cross and pockets these remains . Suddenly he discovers Jesus' body being carried away by some of the followers. Thomas rushes over and helps to lay the body in a rock grave. Roman soldiers oversee this procedure. When the burial is over, they chase away the devotees and begin to watch in front of the grave so that no riots arise. Soon after, Thomas learns that Jesus' tomb has been found empty. Thomas is desperate. He goes in search of the body of Jesus. But nobody can help him, not even the other disciples. Even the Jewish council of elders knows nothing about the whereabouts of Jesus. Neither does the troublemaker Barabbas know anything. Nevertheless, Thomas continues to investigate. Joseph of Arimathäa, who provided the tomb and whom Thomas initially distrusts, confesses that he is a follower of Jesus when he is thrown into prison. It has nothing to do with the disappearance of the corpse. When Thomas sneaks into prison to ask Joseph of Arimathea about the whereabouts of Jesus, he also overhears Pilate . He is also groping in the dark, also trying to find out who has the corpse. Since Joseph of Arimathea cannot help, Thomas looks for the Roman soldiers who were standing at the grave. Cajus, one of the soldiers, first tries to deceive him by selling him a body other than the body of Jesus. When the deception is exposed, Cajus confesses to him that he does not know anything essential about the disappearance of Jesus. He had fallen into a deep sleep that night. But then he helps Thomas by helping him to find the legionnaire Longinus, who also watched the grave that night. Longinus was classified as insane by Pilate and has therefore been banned from other psychotics . Thomas finds Longinus, who tells him that he saw a bright light in the middle of the night. Now he is blind. Thomas finally returns to the other disciples without the body. In the meantime she had seen Jesus several times that Jesus was risen. Thomas doubts these words. But then there is an encounter between him and Jesus. With the encounter, the unbelieving Thomas finds faith in the resurrection. Thomas therefore gives the nails to Joseph of Arimathea. Thomas no longer needs relics , he now believes in Jesus Christ even without them . Like all the other apostles , Thomas goes out and begins missionary work .
