Telecinco was an independent media company from Spain and operator of the Spanish TV program Telecinco. It was founded in 1989 and is based in Madrid .

The company was one of the leading private television companies in Spain. It was largely co-founded by Silvio Berlusconi , whose Fininvest initially held 25% of the shares, as did the Organización Nacional de Ciegos de España (ONCE) and the publisher Ediciones Anaya . The experimental broadcasting began on March 10, 1989 and later the official broadcasting began on March 3, 1990 with a program Tele 5 - it was then the fifth Spanish terrestrial television station. After the private television station Antena 3, Telecinco was the second private television in Spain. In 1997 the company name was changed from Tele 5 to Telecinco and the Mediaset group of companies acquired the majority.

Telecinco employed around 1,185 people in 2005.

Telecinco's television programs in 2006 included Los Serrano , Hospital Central , El Comisario , Caiga Quien Caiga and Motivos Personales, among others . Previous broadcasts have included Médico de Familia , Al Salir de Clase , Periodistas , 7 Vidas , and the talk show Crónicas Marcianas . The station also broadcasts Commissioner Rex in Spanish.

American productions broadcast included CSI , Beverly Hills, 90210 , Melrose Place , Models, Inc. , The X-Files (excluding Episodes Eight and Nine), Walker, Texas Ranger , Twin Peaks , Criminal Minds , Charmed , Felicity , Alias . Telecinco also broadcasts Big Brother (Spanish title: Gran hermano ) in its seventh edition and is known for a number of reality shows such as El Programa de Ana Rosa , Aquí hay tomate , A Tu Lado and Salsa Rosa (renamed to Dolce Vita August 2006).

The company is controlled to 50.1 percent by Mediaset Investimenti , a subsidiary of Fininvest, and 13 percent by the media group Vocento , which includes the daily newspaper ABC . 36.9 percent are freely traded on the stock exchange. In March 2011 the company was renamed from Gestevision Telecinco to Mediaset España Comunicación .
