history

Acciona was founded in 1997 through the merger of the two companies Entrecanales y Tavora and Cubiertas y MZOV .

Battle to take over Endesa

In 2006, Acciona became known to a wider audience in Germany when they announced at the end of September 2006 that they had bought 10% of the shares in the largest Spanish energy company, Endesa . On September 29, 2006, Acciona announced that it had an option to purchase a further 3.69% of the shares and that it was aiming for a share of just under 25%. At the same time, the Spanish construction group Grupo ACS , which competes with Acciona, announced that it wanted to acquire 10% of the second largest energy supplier Iberdrola . ACS already owns a 35% stake in the third largest Spanish energy supplier Unión Fenosa . This is why speculation arose in the financial markets that the merger of the two companies Iberdrola and Unión Fenosa to form a Spanish energy supplier larger than Endesa and that the requirements of the Spanish energy authority CNE, which E.ON intends to oblige in the event of a takeover of Endesa, approx. 30 % of the energy generation capacities, especially nuclear and coal-fired power stations , that Acciona wanted to prevent the takeover of Endesa by the Düsseldorf energy supplier E.ON in the interests of the Spanish government , which Acciona denies. Rather, Acciona wanted to help shape Endesa's business policy. Thanks to current Spanish stock corporation law, a company that wants less than 25% of the share ownership does not have to submit a takeover offer to the remaining shareholders , while a buyer, like E.ON, depends on the review and approval of the Spanish energy authority CNE. On October 20, 2006, Acciona announced that it had a further option to purchase 9.63% of the share capital. This would give Acciona a total of 19.63%.

Corporate headquarters ( Alcobendas ).

At the beginning of 2007 it was decided to make a joint takeover offer with the Italian company Enel in the amount of 41 euros per Endesa share. This and the fact that both companies together already hold 46% of Endesa led to the German E.ON withdrawing the takeover offer on April 2, 2007. In return, the latter negotiated a participation package with activities in Spain, Italy and France as well as further activities in Poland and Turkey worth around ten billion euros, should the Spanish and Italian groups succeed in their joint takeover.

Sale of the wind energy division to Nordex

In October 2015, it became known that Acciona's wind energy division was being taken over by the German wind turbine manufacturer Nordex SE . The purchase price was quoted at EUR 785 million, of which Nordex paid almost half in cash and the remainder with newly issued shares. Acciona also took over shares from the previous main shareholder in Nordex, the Klatten family. Acciona thus became Nordex's largest single shareholder with a stake of 29.9%. The takeover was completed in early April 2016.
