The company KK Ricoh ( Japanese 株式会社 リ コ ー , Kabushiki-gaisha Rikō ), listed in the Nikkei 225 , is one of the largest international manufacturers of digital office communication systems (e.g. multifunctional systems, printers), production printing systems and digital and 35mm cameras . In the 2014/15 financial year, Ricoh generated sales of around 17 billion euros with almost 110,000 employees. The company's headquarters are in Tokyo .
history
The company was founded in Japan in 1936 as Riken Kankoshi Co., Ltd. founded. It was selling photosensitive paper at the time. Camera production began in 1938, and the two-lens Ricohflex II became one of the most sought-after 6x6cm cameras of the early 1950s. The entry into the office machine industry followed in 1955: Ricoh presented the first diazo copier. In 1957 Ricoh was established as a manufacturer of cameras. In 1973 Ricoh set a speed record with the Rifax 600S office telecopier by sending a fax between New York and Tokyo in less than a minute. Around 1975 Ricoh managed to produce the best-selling copier (Ricopy DT1200). In 1982 the company introduced the first digital office system and in 1989 the world's first digital ISDN fax machine (Rifax 7000D) was sold.
The Ricoh Company Ltd. founded the German subsidiary Ricoh Deutschland GmbH in 1978 in Frankfurt am Main. In 2007 Infotec , the European organization of the American Danka group, was taken over. In February 2011, a global strategic cooperation was announced with Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, which should enable customers to optimally combine digital and offset technology. In October 2011, the Pentax brand photo division , formerly part of the Hoya Group , was taken over.
Products
- Digital office communication solutions:
In 1981 Ricoh began marketing plain paper copiers in North America and Europe. As a result, Ricoh took advantage of the increasing digitalization and networking in offices around the world and established itself as a leading provider of digital office communication solutions within just two decades. With over 108,500 employees and offices in more than 150 countries, the Ricoh Group maintains one of the most comprehensive sales and service networks in the industry.
- Main Products:
Multifunctional systems, production printing systems , printers ( laser / gel ), fax systems, digital high-speed printers (Priport) and consumables / spare parts.
- Software solutions:
Print and document management (e.g. archiving), network monitoring, print solutions and connectivity.
- Digital photography:
In addition to digital compact cameras for the amateur sector , Ricoh offers cameras with sophisticated equipment features in the GR digital and GXR series . These cameras enjoy a good reputation among professional users due to their relatively high quality of workmanship with their small size, bright optics and image sensors in APS-C format (for "GXR A"). In addition, with the "G" series, Ricoh offers a waterproof, shock-proof and chemical-resistant digital compact camera. The forerunner of the GR Digital series was the analog model series Ricoh GR with built-in, relatively bright wide-angle optics. These cameras offered the high image quality of single-lens reflex cameras while being significantly smaller in size and weight. In this way, they contributed to the reputation of the Ricoh brand name among professionals.
With the takeover of Pentax in 2011, the portfolio in the field of digital photography was significantly expanded and again there are SLR cameras, a larger range of interchangeable lenses and, for example, mirrorless system cameras (see Pentax K-01 ) on offer. All activities of the photo division were incorporated into the newly founded "Pentax Ricoh Imaging Co., Ltd." merged.
In November 2015 Ricoh introduced its first 3D printer . The device with the name AM S5500P is intended for industrial use and is aimed at companies in the automotive industry .
Awards
The independent Oekom Research AG has repeatedly recognized Ricoh as the most environmentally friendly information technology company. The manufacturer was the first company in the world to receive permission from the Federal Institute for Materials Testing to test its products in its own laboratories in accordance with the Blue Angel environmental standard .
