The BWT Aktiengesellschaft , headquartered in Mondsee in Austria is a manufacturer of specialty chemicals and systems for water treatment . The company name is derived from Best Water Technology (formerly Benckiser Wassertechnik ).

The company has four main production sites in Mondsee ( Austria ), Schriesheim ( Germany ), Paris ( France ), Aesch ( Switzerland ) and numerous subsidiaries and affiliated companies as well as a global sales network.

BWT originally emerged from the Joh. A. Benckiser company . In 1990 the company was taken over by his then manager Andreas Weißenbacher as part of a management buyout . In 1992 the company went public on the Vienna Stock Exchange . The main shareholder of BWT is the WAB Group, a holding company owned by Andreas Weißenbacher, around 20% of the shares were most recently in free float and around 6% were owned by the company. At the 2015 Annual General Meeting, it was decided to merge the company with the unlisted BWT Holding AG and the associated delisting of BWT shares from the Vienna Stock Exchange; this merger was prohibited by the Supreme Court in July 2017. The WAB Privatstiftung applied for a squeeze-out in April 2017 , which was resolved at the Annual General Meeting in August 2017.

The product portfolio covers the entire spectrum of water treatment. These include filtration, filter media, ion exchange systems for demineralization, alternative limescale protection, softening , decarbonization , disinfection (UV, ozone, chlorine dioxide, etc.), dosing technology, membrane technology ( micro , ultra , nanofiltration , reverse osmosis ), pure steam generators, pure water -Distillation, UV systems, ozone generators, ion exchange membranes, electrolysis, electrodialysis, electrodeionization , chlorine dioxide generators and metering pumps.

Honourings and prices

In 2011 the filter cartridge for table water filters with Mg 2+ technology received the State Prize for Innovation from the State of Upper Austria . According to the company, this technology mineralizes the tap water with magnesium during filtration , while it removes unwanted substances such as lime, heavy metals and taste-impairing substances such as chlorine from the water.

In 2011, the large softener series Rondomat Duo S (large softeners are used in buildings, commercial and industrial companies to prevent limescale deposits and the associated damage in water pipes and the devices and systems connected to them) was awarded the State Prize for Design of the Republic of Austria in the area of ​​"capital goods", awarded by the Federal Ministry of Economics, Family and Youth .

Building technology products for private households have already received the Plus X Award twice. In 2012 the water softening system AQA perla was named “Best Product of the Year”, and in 2013 the E1 single lever filter (a drinking water filter that prevents foreign particles and impurities from entering the house installation via the pipes and attacking the installation system) received the same award .
