Tomra Systems ASA is a Norwegian manufacturer listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange of, among other things, reverse vending machines . The company maintains the business areas of collection systems and sorting solutions. The business areas of return of empties, compression and waste recycling are bundled in the business area collection systems. The business areas of recycling, food, mining and special solutions are combined in the business area sorting solutions.

The company was founded in 1972 by the brothers Petter and Tore Planke. The name is derived from Tom flaske (Norwegian for "empty bottle") and R etur A utomat (return machine).

The company employs over 2,000 people worldwide, almost 500 of them in Germany.

The company's headquarters are in Asker . The German branch has been in Langenfeld (Rhineland) since 2011 .

Around 75,000 machines are currently installed in more than 40 countries, around 29,000 of them in Germany.
