The drupa (formerly DRUPA, abbreviation of Dru ck and Pa pier) is the world's largest trade fair of the print media . It is considered to be the most important exhibition in the printing and print media industry . The fair has been held in Düsseldorf every 4 to 5 years since 1951 (most recently from May 31 to June 10, 2016).

From 2016 it was planned to have the Drupa take place every three years, i.e. 2019. However, this was revised during the fair. The next drupa 2020 would have taken place in Düsseldorf, but was postponed to April 20-30 , 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic . With Heidelberger Druckmaschinen one of the largest exhibitors announced not to participate in the fair in the year 2021st

Exhibition content

At drupa, printing and media prepress (systems, devices, accessories), printing machines (devices, accessories), bookbinding / further processing (machines, devices, accessories), paper processing (machines, devices, accessories), materials / consumables and related services will be offered . In addition, there are now numerous special shows and informative events such as the “drupa Innovation parc” and the “cube”; Here, topics of workflow, standards or, more generally, the effects of digitization are presented.

The main focus of drupa 2016 was Premedia & Print, Post press / converting / packaging, Future technologies as well as Materials and Multichannel. The offer was supplemented by the presentation of accessories, services and infrastructure.

history

Before the start of the Second World War, the last printing trade fair took place in 1938 in the Bugra building in Leipzig . From 1951 the DRUPA started. It was opened in 1967 by Karl Schiller and drupa President Hubert Sternberg. In 1972, the 6th International Printing and Paper Fair took place for the first time in the new exhibition center in Düsseldorf-Stockum .

The proportion of foreigners among the visitors increased from 20 percent (1972) to 60 percent (2012). At Drupa 2012, 613 exhibitors came from Germany and 1,231 from abroad.

In 1986 a piece of music was composed for the first time at a drupa. Since 2000 there has been a so-called drupa song for every event. The song for 2012 and 2016 was sung by Dirk Zeisler.
