Gel printer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The money printer technology was developed by Ricoh in 2004 as an alternative for office printers . This special form of inkjet technology is printing with liquid gel . Printers with money printing technology were launched in Germany in 2005 and have been represented there ever since.

When it hits the paper, the liquid components in the gel ink droplets evaporate quickly, whereby the ink gels and can no longer smear. This property is particularly noticeable with double-sided printing, which dries much more slowly with conventional inkjet printers . The gel ink contains fine pigments that are deposited in the upper fiber layers and ensure high document authenticity. Small amounts of the gel are absorbed by the paper, so the paper curls less than with inkjet printers.

The large print head , which is equipped with 384 nozzles, is wider than that of inkjet printers. An automatic cleaning cycle is activated to clean the nozzles, which is pushed through the print head with a megapascal. This cleaning cycle is very important for perfect printing and long service life. The wide printhead is divided into two halves, one in magenta and yellow and the other half in black and cyan. Another difference to conventional inkjet printers is the paper transport with an electrostatic transfer belt system instead of rollers. The advantage of this conveyor belt is that double-sided printing can be printed without borders, without rollers smearing the ink .

In a money printer, the printer cartridges are locally separated from the print head. The four printer tanks are vacuum-packed and the gel is pumped through the different color hoses to the nozzles. With this suction technology, the cartridges can be pumped completely empty, so that no residual ink remains. With gel printing technology, as with inkjet printers, no warming up is necessary.
