Printhead
The printhead is a moving part of certain printer types : dot matrix printers , type wheel printers , inkjet printers , thermal transfer printers . Driven z. B. from a toothed belt or a trapezoidal thread in the sense of a worm gear , it moves back and forth line by line and brings the print image, in raster points or solid areas, onto the paper.
In the case of inkjet printers, the printer cartridges are often also inserted into the print head . In some devices, the cartridges are in a fixed position, and the ink then has to be guided to the print head via flexible lines. The disadvantage of this system is that it is more complicated and therefore more susceptible to failure, the advantage is a lighter and therefore faster print head. Depending on the manufacturer (e.g. Canon , Epson , Lexmark , HP ) you can replace the print head or the ink cartridges yourself or you have to leave this work to a specialist.
While with bidirectional printers the print head prints both in the forward and backward movement, unidirectional printers only print in one direction of movement. Bidirectional printers have a higher printing performance, but mechanical tolerances can reduce the precision of the printing.
