The Hoya KK ( Jpn., HOYA 株式会社 , Hoya Kabushiki Kaisha , Engl. Hoya Corporation ) is a Japanese manufacturer of special glasses. The product range extends from crystal glasses to high-precision glass panes for hard disk drives and photo masks , contact lenses to optical lenses for cameras and LCD projectors .

history

The Hoya KK was founded on November 1, 1941 the company's headquarters was originally located in the town Hoya (now Nishi-Tokyo ) in the prefecture of Tokyo , today it is in the district of Shinjuku in Tokyo . The company's shares are traded on the Tokyo Stock Exchange under the symbol 7741.

The Hoya KK merged in 2007/2008 as the acquiring company with the Pentax KK. The takeover should be completed by October 1, 2007, but the management of Pentax initially did not agree to the proposed share swap and negotiated other solutions. On May 25, Pentax agreed to Hoya's takeover offer and on August 6, 2007, Hoya had acquired 90.59% of the shares in Pentax. On October 29, 2007, the joint announcement was made that the Pentax company will be completely incorporated into Hoya on March 31, 2008, but the Pentax brand was retained. Pentax shareholders received 0.158 Hoya shares for each Pentax share. In October 2011, Pentax's camera division and the brand name were sold to Ricoh .

Cartel agreements

On June 10, 2010, the Federal Cartel Office imposed fines totaling 115 million euros on Hoya and other manufacturers of spectacle lenses for unauthorized price fixing. The notices are not yet final.
