Bankinter was founded in 1965 as a joint venture between Banco Santander and Bank of America . In 1972 Bankinter became independent from its founders and went public in Madrid.
The largest shareholder is the Cartival holding with a stake of 22.9%, which is controlled by the Botin family (who also hold shares in Banco Santander ).
