Bolsa de Madrid

The Madrid Stock Exchange ( Spanish : Bolsa de Madrid ), the Stock Exchange of Madrid .

The Madrid Stock Exchange is the largest of a total of four stock exchanges in Spain , with further stock exchanges in Barcelona , Bilbao and Valencia .

The Madrid Stock Exchange was founded by King Ferdinand VII on October 20, 1831. During the second half of the 19th century , Spain received the peseta , the Bank of Spain and its own stock exchange building. In 1898 it lost its colonies, Puerto Rico , Cuba and the Philippines , which resulted in a 20% slump in share trading in Madrid, which, however, was compensated for in the following years by listing foreign stocks . As a result of the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War , the Madrid Stock Exchange was closed in 1936. During the regime of General Francisco Franco , the stock exchange played a subordinate role internationally. Only in 1975 did a new Spanish constitution and technical innovations on the stock exchange lead to new investments , accelerated above all by Spain's accession to the EU in 1986 and the integration of Spain into the exchange rate system of the European Union in 1988.

In the years around 2000, the Spanish stock exchanges continued to invest in expanding international financial services with Latin America .
