Renzo Arbore

Renzo Arbore (actually Lorenzo Giovanni Maria Antonio Domenico Arbore ; born June 24, 1937 in Foggia ) is an Italian musician , presenter , actor , screenwriter and film director .
Life
Arbore began performing as a jazz clarinetist in clubs after moving to Naples early on . Soon, however, he became known nationwide as a radio announcer when he could be heard alongside Gianni Boncompagni in programs such as Bandiera gialla (1965), Per voi giovani (1967) and Alto gradimento (1970), which were characterized by irony and satire. In the 1969/70 season he also made his debut in Speciale per voi , a television version of the show in which u. a. current music was also discussed. In 1972 he first recorded a record as a clarinetist with the NU Orleans Rubbish Band. He celebrated great success on television again a few years later, when he presented sequences that were partly surrealistic in the format L'altra Domenica, which was broadcast between 1976 and 1979 and in which a large number of young actors such as Mario Marenco , Isabella Rossellini and Roberto Benigni took part.
For the cinema, in 1980 with Il pap'occhio and three years later with FFSS, wild, surreal comedies were created, which gave numerous colleagues and friends the opportunity to appear and which took place in Naples. Occasionally, Arbore was seen as an actor himself. In 1981 he appeared for the first time as a singer in the title song of the program Telepatria International , in the same year he released the album Ora o mai più ovvero cantautore da grande . As part of the television program Quelli della notte , two albums appeared in 1985, on which Arbore could be heard together with the New Pathetic “Elastic” Orchestra, which became big sellers. In 1986 Arbore achieved second place at the Sanremo Festival with the song Il clarinetto , followed by the equally successful album Prima che sia troppo tardi .

The album for the music show Indietro tutta! , Discao Meravigliao from 1988, brought Arbore a number one spot in the Italian album charts; Even the single Sì, la vita è tutta un quiz from it just missed the top position. After the publication of Sanremix (1990), Arbore founded the Orchestra Italiana in 1991 , which plays Neapolitan music in large cast . The big band made its debut at the Montreux Jazz Festival and immediately reached the top of the Italian charts with their first album, Napoli punto ea capo (1992). In the following years another four successful albums followed, also accompanied by international tours. a. Latin American influences in the orchestra's repertoire.
In the 2000s Arbore formed new groups: in 2002 he released an album with the Swing Maniacs , in 2005 one with the Arborigeni . At the same time he remained active with the Orchestra Italiana, with which he performed in Carnegie Hall in New York in 2006 , which resulted in a double live album. Other albums with different groups followed.
As early as 1992, Arbore was recorded with the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in the Grand Officer class .
