The 36th edition of the Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo took place in 1986 from February 13th to 15th at the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo and was moderated by Loretta Goggi together with Anna Pettinelli , Mauro Micheloni and Sergio Mancinelli .
procedure
This year the full playback of previous years was reduced to half playback. Otherwise, the format of the event, organized by Gianni Ravera (for the 16th time) , remained unchanged: 22 entries in the main category without a preliminary selection, which were evaluated through the public vote on Totip tickets; and 14 entries in the newcomer category, of which a jury initially “sorted out” half. Loretta Goggi , herself a successful festival participant five years ago, took over the moderation and was supported by the moderators of the music show Discoring ( Anna Pettinelli , Mauro Micheloni and Sergio Mancinelli ).
Among the participants were three former winners: Anna Oxa , Toto Cutugno and Sergio Endrigo . Other already established names in the field of participants were Enrico Ruggeri , Zucchero , Orietta Berti and Fiordaliso . After great success on television, Renzo Arbore first took part in the festival. Other debutants were Loredana Bertè , Nino D'Angelo and Righeira . The favorite was Eros Ramazzotti , who had won the newcomer category two years earlier. Among the prominent international guests were Sting , Spandau Ballet , Depeche Mode , Mr. Mister , Double , Falco and the Puerto Rican boy group Menudo (with the then 14-year-old Ricky Martin ).
Loredana Bertè, who provoked on stage with a faked pregnancy, and Marcella Bella and Donatella Rettore , who got into an argument behind the stage , caused scandals this year . In the final, Ramazzotti and Adesso tu were able to meet the prognoses and take the victory in front of the highly hyped Il clarinetto by Renzo Arbore. Marcella Bella took third place with Senza un briciolo di testa . Lena Biolcati won the newcomer category . Enrico Ruggeri was awarded the Critics' Prize for Rien ne va plus (in the newcomer category this also went to Biolcati).
It was to be the last festival under the direction of Gianni Ravera: He died on May 15, 1986.

successes
After the festival, nine entries in the main category made it into the top 25 of the Italian single charts. The most successful was the winning title of Eros Ramazzotti, while the second-placed Arbore did not enter the charts at all. Among the songs of the festival guests, Stings Russians turned out to be particularly successful. Loretta Goggi's title song Io nacerò also reached the top 10 in the charts.
