The 68th edition of the Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo took place in 2018 from February 6th to 10th at the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo and was moderated by Claudio Baglioni , Pierfrancesco Favino and Michelle Hunziker . The winner of the competition was the duo of Ermal Meta and Fabrizio Moro with Non mi avete fatto niente ; the two also represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 .

organization

General

The festival was organized by Italy's public broadcaster RAI . Baglioni moderated the festival for the first time and was also the artistic director ( direttore artistico ) of the event. For Michelle Hunziker it was the second moderation after 2007 (at that time at the side of Pippo Baudo ), the actor Pierfrancesco Favino , like Baglioni, appeared for the first time. Geoffrey Martin Westley was responsible for the musical direction ( direzione musicale ) , the stage equipment was by Emanuela Trixie Zitkowsky and directed by Duccio Forzano .

Press room

The press room ( Sala Stampa ) is the name of the jury made up of radio and TV journalists, whose vote on all evenings made up 30% of the rating.

Expert jury

The jury of experts ( giuria degli esperti ) voted on the fourth and fifth evening, with their vote each accounting for 20% of the overall rating. It was made up of the following eight people:

Demoscopic jury

The demoscopic jury ( giuria demoscopica ) presented a sample of 300 randomly selected music consumers who voted from home using an electronic system. She voted on the first three evenings and makes up 30% of the rating each time.

Candidates

In the main Campioni category , 20 candidates competed against each other, all of which reached the final. In the newcomer category Nuove Proposte , eight candidates competed against each other, who contested the final on the fourth evening.

The 20 Campioni were announced in the Sarà Sanremo show hosted by Claudia Gerini and Federico Russo on Rai 1 on December 15, 2017.

Nuove Proposte

During the Sarà Sanremo show , the music jury, consisting of Ambra Angiolini , Francesco Facchinetti , Irene Grandi , Piero Pelù and Gabriele Salvatores , selected six candidates out of 16 for the newcomer category. Another two (Leonardo Monteiro and Alice Caioli ) were determined in the preliminary decision Area Sanremo .

First evening

On the opening evening, all 20 Campioni presented their song. The vote was determined by the television audience, the opinion polling jury and the press room. In the end, only a division of the songs into three groups based on the vote of the demoscopic jury was announced, according to high, medium and low ranking.

Second evening

On the second evening four of the Nuove Proposte had their first appearance , and ten of the Campioni their second appearance. In both cases, the vote was again determined by the television audience, the opinion polling jury and the press room. After Non mi avete fatto niente by Ermal Meta and Fabrizio Moro had to be examined by the music commission after suspected violations of the rules, Renzo Rubino appeared in their place. Finally, based on the vote in the press room, the songs were divided into three groups, according to high, medium and low ranking.

Fourth evening

The eight songs of the Nuove Proposte were presented one last time; after a renewed vote, the newcomer winner was determined taking into account the two previous evenings. The 20 Campioni appeared again, this time accompanied by a duet partner and with the opportunity to change the arrangement of their song. The votes on the fourth evening were 50% from the televoting, 30% from the press room and 20% from the vote of the expert jury; the division of the contributions (Campioni) into three groups followed the vote of the expert jury.

    Fifth evening

    After the 20 candidates had performed their song, the three candidates with the highest voting results (50% of the evening rating counted, 50% of the previous rating) made it to the final round.     Dopofestival

    After the festival, the one-hour talk show Dopofestival took place every evening in the casino in Sanremo , in which journalists and participants of the festival had their say. The program was moderated by Edoardo Leo and Carolina Di Domenico , with the participation of Sabrina Impacciatore , Rolando Ravello , Paolo Genovese and Rocco Tanica . On the last evening, the Baglioni d'Oro was awarded, a special prize for the best contribution chosen by the participants: it went to Ornella Vanoni , Bungaro and Pacifico for Imparare ad amarsi .
