The 69th edition of the Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo took place in 2019 from February 5th to 9th at the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo and was moderated by Claudio Baglioni , Virginia Raffaele and Claudio Bisio . The winner of the competition was Mahmood with the song Soldi .

organization

General

The festival was organized by Italy's public broadcaster Rai . Baglioni moderated the festival for the second time after the successful edition of the previous year and at the same time was again the artistic director ( direttore artistico ) of the event. Raffaele had already appeared as a co-presenter in 2016 , while Bisio presented the festival for the first time. Geoffrey Martin Westley was again responsible for the musical direction ( direzione musicale ) , the stage equipment was by Francesca Montinaro and directed by Duccio Forzano .

Press room

The press room ( Sala Stampa ) was the name of the jury made up of accredited radio and TV journalists, whose vote made up 30% of the rating on all evenings.

Honorary Jury

The jury of honor ( giuria d'onore ) voted on the fourth and fifth evening, with their vote each accounting for 20% of the overall rating. It was composed of the following people:

Demoscopic jury

The demoscopic jury ( giuria demoscopica ) is a sample of 300 randomly selected music consumers who vote from home using an electronic system. She voted on the first three evenings and made up 30% of the rating each time.

Candidates

Unlike in previous years, there was no newcomer category in 2019, instead the newcomer competition was held as part of the Sanremo Giovani show on December 20 and 21, 2018, moderated by Pippo Baudo and Fabio Rovazzi . The two newcomer winners ( Einar and Mahmood ) then entered the race (with new entries) together with the 22 regular candidates in a single category. All 24 participants reached the final.

First evening

On the opening evening, all 24 participants presented their song. The vote was determined by the television audience, the opinion polling jury and the press room. Finally, based on the vote of the demoscopic jury, the songs were divided into three groups, according to high, medium and low ranking.

Fourth evening

All 24 participants performed one more time, this time accompanied by a duet partner and with the opportunity to change the arrangement of their song. The votes on the fourth evening were 50% from the televoting, 30% from the press room and 20% from the vote of the honorary jury. In the end, the jury of honor awarded a special prize for the best duet.

    Dopofestival

    After the festival, the one-hour talk show Dopofestival - The Dark Side of Sanremo took place every evening in the casino in Sanremo , in which journalists and participants of the festival had their say. The program was moderated by Rocco Papaleo , together with Anna Foglietta and Melissa Greta Marchetto . As in the previous year, the Baglioni d'Oro was awarded at the end , a special prize for the best contribution chosen by the festival participants: It also went to Mahmood for Soldi .
