The 52nd edition of the Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo took place in 2002 from March 5th to 9th at the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo and was moderated by Pippo Baudo with Manuela Arcuri and Vittoria Belvedere .

procedure

The Ariston Theater, venue of the Sanremo Festival

In 2002 Pippo Baudo returned to the festival and not only took over the moderation, but also, as usual, the complete artistic direction. Manuela Arcuri and Vittoria Belvedere moderated at his side . The new rules stipulated that only ten of the 16 participants in the newcomer category reached the “small final”; As before, the 20 participants in the main category could all move into the final. The jury of experts was retained, but only had an influence on the evaluation of the newcomers. This year it consisted of Claudio Cecchetto , Enrico Vanzina , Chiara Tortorella , Victoria Cabello and Daniele Bossari .

Well-known names such as Michele Zarrillo , Fiordaliso , Fausto Leali , Patty Pravo , Loredana Bertè or Matia Bazar predominated in the field of participants . For the first time, the girl group Lollipop, a casting show graduate from Mediaset, took part in the festival. Among the newcomers, the participation of two sons of well-known fathers was noticed: Marco Morandi ( Gianni Morandi ) and Giacomo Celentano ( Adriano Celentano ). Among the guests this year were Fiorello , Kylie Minogue , Alanis Morissette , Anastacia , Michael Bolton , Shakira , Roberto Benigni , Destiny's Child , Alicia Keys , Britney Spears and the Cranberries .

15-year-old Anna Tatangelo was able to win with Doppiamente fragile in the newcomer category, with only a narrow lead over Valentina Giovagnini (Il passo silenzioso della neve) , the favorite of the expert jury. The critic's award , however, went to Archinuè with La marcia dei santi . In the final, Matia Bazar won with Messaggio d'amore ahead of Alexia (Dimmi come…) and Gino Paoli (Un altro amore) ; Daniele Silvestri won the Critics' Prize with Salirò . The Genoese band had already won the festival once in 1978.
